This site is temporarily shut down.

My grandmother passed away last week, so I don't think I'll be able to update for a while. I will try to post again once Lost is off of hiatus, but I have so much stuff going on right now I'm not even sure if I will be able to keep up with it then.

Heres some of my Lost art. Thats all I have for now.

Thursday, November 02, 2006

I am so sorry that I didn't post anything for Everyone Man For Himself, and unfortunately I won't be able to post anything for last night's episode or next week's. I am extremely busy studying for these two very important tests, and I don't have time to put together my posts until the tests are over and done with. I feel extremely bad for not being able to update on time every week like I used to.  I promise that I will have a mega post on all three episodes once the tests are over. I will even post the icons and stuff I've been working on.

Please keep commenting while I'm gone! I really want to hear your comments, questions, ideas etc. about the episodes, and although I won't be able to update, I may be able to get on the computer every once in a while and comment back.

Thank you for your patience!

Further Instructions (and The Glass Ballerina)

This week's episode was very....strange. It was definately interesting, but I was expecting something different. I still thought it was a good episode, though. But, before we start talking about this week's episode, I just want to post some important notes from last week's episode, The Glass Ballerina, since I did not provide a full post for that epi.

Things to Note in The Glass Ballerina

"My name is Benjamin Linus and I've lived on this island all my life."

Possible name refrences

  • Linus, in Greek mythology:
1 Son of Apollo and Psamathe of Argos. He was deserted by his mother on a hillside and devoured by dogs. When Psamathe’s father learned what his daughter had done, he had her killed. For this double outrage, Apollo cursed Argos with a plague for which there could be no release until Psamathe and Linus were propitiated with prayers and songs of lamentation. The “Linus song,” a lament derived from this legend, was sung at harvest time as a dirge for the dying vegetation. 2 Famous musician who taught Hercules. When Linus tried to punish Hercules, the latter killed him. Another legend says that Linus was killed by Apollo, who tolerated no rivals in music.
  • In the bible, Benjamin is held hostage in Egypt by Joseph. Joseph knows -- but Benjamin is unaware -- that they are brothers. Later Benjamin becomes the leader of one the tribes of Israel. In Hebrew "Benjamin" means "son of right." Right could mean "goodness" or "right hand" (true leader's right-hand man?).killed by Apollo, who tolerated no rivals in music.

  • Two-time Nobel Prize winner, Linus Pauling, was a "quantum chemist and biochemist, widely regarded as the premier chemist of the twentieth century." Pauling is noted as a versatile scholar for his expertise in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, metallurgy, immunology, anesthesiology, psychology, debate, radioactive decay, and the aftermath of nuclear weapons, in addition to quantum mechanics and molecular biology.
  • Linus Benedict Torvalds is a "Finnish software engineer best known for initiating the development of the Linux kernel. He now acts as the project's coordinator (or Benevolent Dictator for Life)." "Benevolent Dictator for Life" (BDFL) is the informal, slightly tongue-in-cheek title given to a respected individual in the open source development community who sets general directions and makes final calls in certain situations within the scope of a given project. A BDFL is the person who effectively holds dictator-like powers over that project, yet is trusted by other users/developers not to abuse this power. The term is used humorously, because the "subjects" of the project leader contribute voluntarily, and the end-product may be used by everyone. A dictator in this context has power only over the process, and that only for as long as the trust remains.
  • The last name he tells Jack may be a reference to the Peanuts character Linus van Pelt. In the comic strip, Linus is known for his unusually high intelligence, and he acts as the strip's philosopher and theologian, often quoting the Gospels. He also had uncanny physical abilities as a baby, such as mastering a basketball seconds after being introduced to it and blowing a balloon into the shape of a cube. He also made his own "quasi"-religious idol after combining elements of Halloween and Christmas in a strip. He calls the incarnation, "The Great Pumpkin". Linus is the only one who believes in the Great Pumpkin. Though he occasionally convinces other characters the Great Pumpkin is real, they always lose faith, while Linus keeps his.

Now for the second part of the quote, "I have lived on this island all my life." Depending on how old you think Benry is, this means that he could or could not have come to the island with Dharma. The Dharma Initiative started in the 70's. So, if you think that Benry is around 30, then he came to the island with Dharma, but if you think he is older than that, then that means he did not come to the island with Dharma, which leaves us with even more questions. What do I think? Michael Emerson is 51, so Benry must be around that age too, so he couldn't of come to the island with Dharma.

Wow. I can't believe all of that comes from analyzing just one line.

That's the main thing that I wanted to post, but I might add more stuff later.

Now for this week's episode...

Further Instructions

Title
Locke first recieved instructions from the Island in season one, concerning the hatch. In this episode, obviously, he gets further instructions from the Island, which tells him that he must save Eko's life.

Deja Vu
I had dejavu more than once in this episode. Did anyone else?
First, lets start with the BIG one. Desmond. Can he really see the future? How else would he have known about Locke's speech? Another odd thing was that it seemed that he recognized his 'power' and knows something more about it, or is at least trying to figure it out. The way he responded to Hurley's confusion when he mentioned Locke's speech was very odd. His excuse about his head being mixed up was weak, plus the way he walked off after saying that, and when he was by himself at the end, during Locke's real speech, it seemed like he was really contemplating what he 'saw.' I can't wait until they go more in depth with this.

Deja Vu #2: The opening of this episode was very similar to the opening of the series. Both started with the opening of an eye, Jack's, and in this epi, Locke's. Then the camera zooms out and shows them lying on the ground, both far away from where the were supposed to be (Jack-the rest of the plane, Locke-the hatch). Then they turn their heads and see someone/something (Jack-Vincent, Locke-Desmond).

normal_instructions-cap-004.jpg

Deja Vu #3: When Charlie goes to find out what happened to Locke, he says "So you're gone for a whole day after a massive hatch detonation--you don't call, you don't write?"  Last season, in Three Minutes, Charlie says almost the same exact thing to Eko; "So you wake up in the middle of the night, you grab your Jesus stick, you race off into the jungle--you don't call, you don't write?"

Deja Vu #4:  Eddie. An Eddie has already appeared once in a Locke flashback. Eddie was the name of the security guard at Locke's father's house.

Deja Vu #5: Locke's last flashback scene in this epi, is extremely similar to Sun's scene with Colleen in last week's episode. Eddie told Locke that he's not a murderer, he's a good man. Colleen told Sun that although she might think differently, she is not a killer. The only difference was that Locke did not shoot Eddie, while Sun did shoot Colleen. That shows a lot about their characters.

The Sweat Lodge
First off, I loved Locke's dream sequence. I think it gives some insight on what the characters are going through right now, or will be going through soon.

  • Charlie, Claire and Aaron, "They'll be fine--for a while." -Right now they are one big happy family. But, as some rumors are saying, a new love triangle may be forming between Charlie, Claire and Paolo.
  • Sun, Jin and Sayid, "I think Sayid's got it." -I guess they will come back ok, thanks to Sayid.
  • Hurley, "Not Hurley."-Obviously, we already found out Hurley is fine.
  • Desmond, "Forget it, he's helping himself." -Desmond is also fine. This could also show that he knows something more about his current situation with his 'vision'.
  • Jack, Kate and Sawyer, "Theres nothing you can do for them. Not yet." -Foreshadowing that Locke will plan a rescue attempt after helping Eko.

This next part is from Gotcoms at the ABC boards.

The inability of Locke to speak reminds me of an incident in the bible. Since Lost has no shortage of biblical references I thought it would be worth a mention. The father of John the Baptist Zechariah was in the temple one day when an angel appeared to him and said that his wife Elizabeth was going to have a baby. Since he thought that was impossible he did not believe the angel and was struck dumb. He later regained his speech at the circumcision of the baby when he wrote on a tablet, his name is John.

The Green House
Is this why Locke tried so hard to keep Charlie away from drugs? Because he knows the bad effects that can come from it? Did he ever use the drugs himself?

The Cave

normal_instructions-cap-458.jpg
The tonka truck must have been there a while since it was made of metal, not plastic. It was also interesting that one of the skeletons had a shirt with the Pearl logo on it. There are a lot of questions that surround this cave, but I have a feeling this will be one of the things that won't be mentioned again for a long time, if ever.

The Hatch

user posted image
So thats whats left of the hatch! It imploded. But how did Desmond, Eko and Locke get thrown away from the hatch? They should have been buried underneath all the concrete. Remember, though that the hatch door was repelled so it's possible that after the initial collapse, the hatch actually exploded before burying everything. Maybe the magnet reversed polarity and the debris was thrown away from the hatch.

Eko
Did Eko really talk to Locke? Or was Locke just imagining it? If Eko was really talking to Locke, was he just consoling Locke or does he know something more about Jack, Kate, and Sawyer?

Eko's Jesus Stick
We had a clear view of the Jesus Stick in this episode. There were a few interesting things written on it that I hadn't noticed before. The numberes are written around the bottom, and also it says "Lift up your eyes" similar to what Desmond tells Jack, to "Lift it up."

normal_instructions-cap-016.jpg

Jeronimo Jackson
Eddie had a Jeronimo Jackson shirt on. We have seen a Jeronimo Jackson album in the hatch.

normal_instructions-cap-274.jpg

Paulo and Nikki
We were introduced to two new characters, Paolo (played by Rodrigo Santoro) and Nikki (played by Kiele Sanchez). Although it will be interesting to have two new characters, I thought they were introduced rather poorly. They each only had a couple of lines, and the lines weren't even that good. I was expecting them to be introduced in a way where we would at least learn a little something about them, but they just popped up in the last scene. I bet a lot of people didn't even notice them unless they had already heard about the two new characters.

Quotes

normal_instructions-cap-048.jpg

Charlie: "Trees? Yeah, I've heard they're wonderful conversationalists."
 Possible LOTR reference?

normal_instructions-cap-117.jpg

Charlie: "What's that? You're not taking drugs, are you John? I only ask because of the strict zero tolerance  policy you've enacted, and I wouldn't want you to have to start punching yourself in the face."

normal_instructions-cap-149.jpg

Boone: "So you can bring the family back together."

normal_instructions-cap-220.jpg

Boone: "They've got him. You don't have much time."
Who's "they?" There was only one bear.

normal_instructions-cap-300.jpg

Locke: "You don't want to go with me, Charlie. Bad things happen to people who hang around with me."

normal_instructions-cap-307.jpg

Charlie: "If you want to say polar bear, you can just say it."
Locke: "Alright, polar bear."

normal_instructions-cap-318.jpg

Charlie: "You know, when I used to get high, I'd watch nature programs on the Beeb. Polar bears are meant to be quite clever. Very clever. They're like the Einstiens of the bear community."

normal_instructions-cap-392.jpg

Charlie: "Hairspray? Now, I hate to be the one to point this out to you..."

normal_instructions-cap-497.jpg

Hurley: "Right, you were failsafing. Well, FYI, the whole island vibrated. And Jack, Kate, and Sawyer saw it too, right before they got bags pulled  over their heads."
Desmond: "Don't worry. Locke's going to go after them. He said so in his speech."

normal_instructions-cap-451.jpg

Locke: "I can fix this."

normal_instructions-cap-516.jpg

Charlie: "Spoken like someone who's had too many messes to clean."

Now, for this week's comic. This one is by LOASI.

Happy Lost Day!

5 hours to go!

Sorry I didn't update about The Glass Ballerina.  I was going to update Saturday, but my computer, TV and phone wasn't working for a good 12 hours. Then I had to visit my familey members in the hospital, and to top it all off, I have a bunch of tests and projects due this week.

Anyway, enough excuses, this just means that this week I will have a double update!

Now for a couple sneak peeks of tonight's episode:

I hope everyone enjoys Lost tonight! It looks really good!

Friday, October 13, 2006

Sorry I haven't updated yet! I've had two family emergencies over the past two days, so that has to come first. I'll try my best to have my post up over the weekend.

On a happier note, I loved this week's episode, especially the ending! Theres plenty to talk about, yet again, so leave some comments and I'll get back to you asap.
